THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

May 2, 2025 at 11:45 PM Post #4,816 of 4,829
I think they are excellent for rock and for the genres I listen to they are excellent all -arounders imo. Two headphones out of many I've purchased will never be sold, my Susvara and my Composer.
Thank you very much for your feedback!

That’s such high praise indeed! :beerchug:

‼️As I said....this is AUSTRIAN AUDIO and I only tolerate the best for the Composer 👍💪‼️
(And I'm sure many people will also say...wow, this is really at the very highest level in terms of execution😉)

Sorry to say that.....not plastic 🤪

Others would tolerate something like that 👎🙈😝

Now the composer offers us four different performances....which of these four appeals most to the individual ear?
I can't decide that for you 😎
You have to find that out for yourselves 👍
(Also depending on the music genre)

Ps.lol

Hi guys, I have a question please. Since I can't demo the composer, I've been reading reviews and comments from the different owners along with looking at some of the frequency responses graphs.

Would the composer work with genres such as rock, pop, metal, symphonic metal and such or would it be thin/ethereal sounding? From what I gathered, whomever liked the DCA headphones (Stealth, Noire X, etc) also liked the composer, but I'm looking for something different and if the composer is close to those in note weight and music presentation then I might look or wait for something else.
About 90% of the time I listen to metal (traditional, death, thrash, black etc.) and if I could only own one headphone it would be The Composer.

Here is an example.....yes, it's really difficult to choose which one fits better to my ears 😎

Stock pads for this track 👍

And Suede Pads for this Track 🤘

PS.And now there's more...do you want the performance closer to your ears or a further away?
Yes, thanks to the spacers this is also possible to determinate the stage and the depth yourself 😉

The suede pads are on their way to me, from Austria to France. Will report back.

I'm curious which pads you prefer for which tracks/genres 😎

I've grabbed one from Headamp as it is currently discounted instock and ready to ship. "AUSTRIANSPRING" is applied automatically too. :beerchug:

😎 😂

This precise magnetic millimeter fitting mechanism should be a matter of course in the high-price segment 👍
(I expect the same from others in the future if they want higher prices 😉)
But it costs a lot of money and time and requires a high level of expertise in how to design headphones

PS.Lily is always here.....not only in amsterdam 😜

I would be interested in some impressions of the difference made by the spacers. Is the idea that it should simply make the presentation more like the HD800S - apparently placing the listener at greater distance from the performance? The HD800S is designed to create this effect as part of an integrated presentation - including the frequency balance. Do the Composer spacers affect the perceived frequency balance? Are mids more or less present? Are lower frequencies more or less prominent?

Of course, the perception of the lows...the mids and the highs also changes....if you increase the front volume to the outer ear 😎
The resulting spatial depth is also quite impressive 👍

NOMAX

PS. Should I buy the spacers.... or should I go for the Suede Pads?
You'll have to find that out for yourselves...I don't know your genres and preferences...only my own....and here it's 50/50
I am not an expert on classical music or jazz....but I think they are more likely to go for the spacers 😎
And anyone who buys both... will probably not look for anything else on the market in the long term 😉

Yes, I guessed the perceived balance would change - I'm interested in how that balance changes. As noted above, changing pads, etc is likely to change the balance - but not always for the better, and not in ways that are easy to predict. It can't be assumed, for example, that simply moving the ear further from the driver will produce something closer to the HD800S (or other 'spacious' phones). Designing a pressure chamber for a driver is a complex business - fundamental to tuning.

Yes, as an acoustician you have to think about it from the first second...because only then does such a mechanical intervention
work afterwards at highest level with spacers or other pads 😎

NOMAX

PS.And it sounds really awesome to my ears👍.... but in a different way
It looks as if the designers and the acoustician had already thought of this two years ago 😉

I'll let you hear from me again at the end of next week...I have AA in front of my Ipad Cam next week...that will be fun 😀
(And why I'm doing this...since I'm personally more than satisfied with Composer, it's just my way as an Austrian of saying thank you for this product)

I wish everyone continues to enjoy the Composer and all other silent readers with the model of their choice ✌️

Very nice! This is what high end audio accessories should always look like! Looking forward to listening the Composer with the new pads AND spacers for the first time in a few days.

Cheers,
Bernie
