There is one problem when using the computer as playback device. And that is that it's to easy to change song, album, artist. When you put a Vinyl down, you let it spin to the end. When you put a CD in, you will atleast listen to one song. But on a computer, things like that hardly ever happen. That in some way kills the relaxing bit of music.

I normally use Foobar for palyback, having a "filter list" with all artists, and a playlist with all albums & songs from the artist. Yesterday I made the filter list to auto-hide. To prevent me from chaning artists atleast. And I think it worked pretty good. Seems like if it's hard to change, it will not happen so often.

What is your solution to the problem?

i just let it play anyway...
Its easy to change song on vinyl but I listen to the whole album anyway because its how an album was designed to be listened. If the album is unbearable to listen all the way through I probably wont go back to it very often.

You are responsible for your own behavior. If you want to listen to an entire album, sit down and listen to it. If you don't really want to, you won't, but it is not the media's fault.

x2

The option might be there to change it quickly, but it's still up to you whether you choose to use it. It's a PICNIC problem. (problem in chair, not in computer)

I, personally, like to have my entire library accessible in one place. Hunting down a CD, cleaning it, and then hoping my CD player is in the mood to read it is not my idea of fun listening.

I'm sorry but I just don't get the "problem" you are calling out. Just because picking and choosing songs is easy via computer interface doesn't necessarily mean that is what people are doing. Queue up a CD and let it play. What's the "problem"?

Hey Bredin, that's a psychological issue, and nothing to do with using a computer. All you have to do is simply 'change your mind and act upon it' ! Hit play and let the pc get on with it !

I think the OP has a point, myself. Regardless of what you "can" or "should" do, in my experience there is more of a tendency to switch around when the media is more accessible, like on a computer, or even to some extent a CD over vinyl. I think it's gradually shifting our attention spans, in fact, the more we're exposed to using digital technology.

Yeah its not a computer problem, its a lack of willpower and self control issue

If I want to listen to another song, I'll listen to it even if I'm listening to a CD. I'd just have to stop, eject, put in case, put back, get new cd, take out, put in, play. Now its just a double click away and I love that.

But most of the time, I'll still put on either one album, or all albums by an artist and not touch it until the whole playlist is done or I'm in the mood for something else.

COMPUTERS RULE!

It is not the computer's fault that you can't control yourself. It is a psychological issue, not a hardware issue lol.

I can see the problem, but luckily it does not bother me.
As I just find an album I would like to listen to, press play and let it run. Most often to the point where the album runs out and it continues playing the next one lined up in the playlist.
