WorldView

This program shows the map of the earth, either in flat or globe form. And it shows in real time, which part of the earth is in darkness and which is in the sun. It updates by itself, you can set cities time, you can zoom in, it can even choose a path where you want to see the camera pan across the earth !!!

And it's free !!! Ther website does said it needs $15, but it's a free download and there is no restriction. There also doesn't say if there is a time limit.

Go try it out !! highly recommended.

OMG.

I have wanted something that has done that for the last... 3 years at least

I was talking to my girlfriend less than a month ago about it, saying I really want a wallpaper that updates itself and shows where it's light and dark.

Thank you so much raymondlin

Look under "Registration", in the Help menu:

"You may evaluate the program for a maximum of thirty days, after which you must register it or discontinue its use."

It doesn't necessarily say that it will discontinue itself, rather that you have to do it yourself. The system is based on trust.

I've had this for about 3 months now, and although I did like it at first, it eventually became very repetitive. And, it always seemed to renew the wallpaper and use my system resources whenever I was doing something important.

However I do recommend getting a couple pictures from the program (especially one overlooking one continent at night) and putting switch them out as wallpapers.

Does anybody know if this works with multiple monitors?

Running three 17"s this end and it would be really cool if it will span across them all.

Sound As Ever

It's called shareware. It's been around (gasp) before the internet was available to everybody. People used to go out to bulletin boards with 2400 modems and download programs like this. It's still available at places like nonoags.com.
The point of this post is:
If you like the product and use it beyond the 30 day trial, please pay for it. The people who write these programs aren't rock stars who make millions whether you pay for their music or not. If you don't pay for it no improvements or updates will be made. I've seen many neat little utilities die out because people used them without paying for them.
Sometimes this pays off for the buyer as well. I bought a little program called Winzip 1.0 when it first came out. With the advent of the internet this product has become the de facto zipping utility. I haven't had to pay for an update since, and I think it is up to version 8.6 or something. How many programs can you say that about?

Man, this program rocks...

There is just something very beautiful and incredibly intimidating about looking out the window as the sun is setting and things are getting dark, and then looking at a live picture of the same moment from thousands of miles above. It's a moving experience.

There would, however be the issue of the large "DEMO" text appearing on the image.
