Don't worry about the hissing. You can't hear it when you're listening to the music.

You can buy an 8GB SDHC card for the D2, increasing its storage to 12GB. You can also carry around multiple cards.

The Zune does not support any lossless format.

About hiss: it depends on what IEM you have. If you are using very sensitive IEMs (Shure E500, d-JAYS), the D2 isn't for you.

In that case, neither is the Zune, as testified by Funk4U.

Surely that will depend on the IEMs and the type of music used? In my experience, whenever a DAP exhibits hiss with a given IEM, it's much more prevalent / noticable when the music is something like classical / orchestral vs something like rock (forgive the generalization).

I haven't heard the D2, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

I would say that's an accurate assumption. I only listened to it with the E4c's, but I don't recall ever feeling that the hiss was a problem when I was listening to music, from opera to rock to jazz.

Then again, I wasn't listening for it

Thanks for clarifying

Other than the hiss, are there are any downsides / annoyances / gripes you've found with the D2?

yeah, it's not a hard drive player :P

honestly, it was a very good player, aside from the fact i couldn't fit all my songs on it. it would have been a huge problem if I had been using FLAC, cause I would have ran out of space even quicker.

When I had it, the playlist feature wasn't working, which was obnoxious, but I'm not sure if that's been fixed yet or not.

Other than that, I really liked it. the touch screen was very usable, and the tactile buttons did everything they needed to for blind use. they could skip a song, and adjust the volume.

um2 is definately hissy with any source. you may need to get an amp in order to fully enjoy the iems. the only source that never hissed with my um2 is minidisk portable players from sharp and later sony models. i use the atrio m5 now and the hiss is much less as they are not as sensitive. they also by the way sound like a tame dt770 - huge bass, wonderful yet not overpowering mids but much more laid back highs. great iems

I'm not sure what Funk4U is hearing

I hear no hiss using the Zune+E500 at normal listening volumes
