The Santa Cruz plays in another league and is of course a great second-hand choice.

But the SB Live 24bit has AFAIK a good reputation here for a cheap card. Note that the SB Live 24bit has nothing in common with the old and crappy SB Live.

Sadly, it's not a real upgrade over onboard-sound quality-wise and it is most definitately not worth that price.

My epox 8RDA+ (nforce2) built-in sound card generates noticeable crackle (even the cheapo SBLive! doesn't have the crackle) ...
