Astrakhan Cafe -- Anouar Brahem (a journey of middle-eastern/central-Asian music with the oud, clarinet and percussion)

Cite a la Musique -- Dino Saluzzi (beautiful compositions for the Argentian bandoneon). Want to get his follow-up, Responsorium, for the longest time.

Mnemosyne -- Garbarek/Hilliard. Twice as long as their famous Officium and many times as varied. Their rendition of Antoine Brumel's "Agnus Dei" is simply heavenly.

Psalm of Repentance
-- Alfred Schniktte. Any lover of unaccompanied choral music should have this CD. I guarantee it will deeply impress you.

If only ECM CDs are not so expensive...

ECM was a specialist interest of mine for a while: I even got to meet Manfred Eicher, the charismatic head honcho, at their Munich office. In my view, some of their best titles are as follows:

Chick Corea: Septet, Children's Songs
Keith Jarrett: Koln Concert, Arbour Zena, Paris Concert, La Scala, The Celestial Hawk, Live at the Blue Note: Complete Recordings, Shostakovitch's 24 Preludes & Fugues
Kim Kashkashian: Paul Hindemith's Sonatas for Viola and Piano and Viola Alone
Meredith Monk: Dolmen Music, Atlas
Arvo Part: Arbos, Te Deum
Ralph Towner, Diary

Dave Holland Quartet - Conference of the Birds

Quite simply one of the best free jazz albums ever recorded. The fact that the sound quality is also first rate is just an added bonus.

Two more very good albums from the early days of ECM:

Ralph Towner - Solstice

This could very well be the best sounding ECM recording of all time. Oh, the music pretty good too.

Circle - Paris-Concert

Another great free jazz recording.
