What genre is this? MetalCore?

indeed it is

I kinda liked the song, Soup, but i prefer my female metal singers to sing, not scream so much.  I'm more of a goth-metal and prog-metal guy, as far as modern metal goes.

Big time +1 for Tarja Turunen, though!!!!

I'm also a HUGE Joanna Newsom fan.

yeah, i like some symphonic metal as well, but i really like that girls harsh vocals, hence why i posted it in the thread
biggrin.gif
though her prettier vocals aint all bad either

There are a lot of amazing female singers and vocalists in this thread. I'm always surprised by how little love Janis Joplin gets when asked about female singers. Grace Slick gets almost no press at all. So even though I enjoy many of the women that have been mentioned repeatedly here I'll spread some love for:

Janis Joplin
Grace Slick

The issue with Janis and Grace are that the music they made, while landmark at the time, sounds very dated today IMO.  I like a lot of Jefferson Airplane, and Grace's songs especially, but I am an old fart compared to most folks on this site.  Gen X'ers like me were exposed to Grace and Janis when their music was still fairly fresh, even though it was baby-boomer era music.  Many Gen Y'ers have never heard it, I'm sure.  There is a lot of "Classic Rock" that has held up much better over time, IMHO.

Yes I'm an old fart. LoL

Give Janis' song "A Woman Left Lonely" a listen again. Tell me how it holds up. :)

Sarah Brightman - i know she is not a true 'classical' singer but her voice just goes right through me, look at this vid and tell me you dont have goosebumps

An australian singer, Kate Ceberano does great jazz and her cover albums - nine lime avenue and So much beauty are just great.

And (dont laugh ) just for fun, Kylie Minogue. I KNOW I KNOW OK :) but when im down i can just pop her on and dance about like a moron for 20 min and im right as rain again. Her music is light and fluffy and sometimes you just need that.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned her yet, but Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power) is really great is you like a "smokier" female vocal.

I'd highly recommend The Covers Record and Jukebox albums, they're my favourites.
