I will be purchasing a Benchmark DAC1 HDR dedicated DAC for $2,000. The DAC1 HDR has a built in headphone amp, I'm not entirely sure how well it will perform with a pair of Sennheiser HD800's. I simply just want a home rig where the only flaws that may develop are from the headphones alone not the source.
Have any of you guys have any experience with the DAC1 HDR as a dedicated AMP also along with the DAC?
Or is it it a smart move to get a separate amp? If so...What headphone amp would give me the most spacious, detailed and true to the source sound for under $1,500 and also can fully drive any power hungry headphone thrown at it?
My home rig will consist of an iPod Classic 120gb feeding lossless digital bits to a Wadia iTransport. The iTransport will then feed the digital bits to the Benchmark DAC1 HDR which may (I don't know yet) feed the converted audio to a dedicated headphone amp.....then to my HD800's.
