Americans do seem to have a fondness for mixing sweet and savoury. First time I was over there and a waitress asked if I wanted syrup on my breakfast (eggs and bacon), I thought she'd lost the plot.
I agree. I normally don't like American style breakfast and the sweet stuff in general but once in a while, in small amounts it can be a novelty and enjoyable. Personally I feel bacon is overrated and much prefer grilled pork belly which is kind of like bacon but more meaty and better IMO. I also rarely eat donuts and think they are overrated too but once in a while, it's a nice delight and sometimes they're great.
