Men's Journal recently published a headphone roundup. I decided to scan & share. How do you feel about their selections?

That ultrasone looks like the K340 modded here that was painted brown, hehe! Maybe retro is making a comeback after all!

Has anyone else noticed that almost every magazine headphone roundup lately has ended up using an Ultrasone can as reference? The TAS one did it too, among others. It's odd since they have almost no presence here, even as sponsors.

Maybe it's the ads in those magazines?

During my last minimeeting here at my house I have listened for the first time to a Ultrasone (the 7 edition) so, probably the best of the house... top of the line, no more in production...

I never heard a so insignificant can before...

Best!

You're right. I was doing some reading a few days back and thought the very same thing. Is it just a lack of good marketing on the part of the Ultrasone folks? I mean, are they really good headphones from a company that doesn't have a good marketing strategy? I need to hear some of these... some interesting models on their site.

Except they didn't use the Ultrasone can as reference; read the bit of the actual article text that is visible and you'll see that their reference can was the HD650...

Well that wasn't exactly what I meant, I meant more like they consider it to be the best.

ayep, someone's been reading head-fi!

the closest other source i found was on the Rane website, which also had Headwize on it so it's at least that old -

headphones - An electromagnetic transducer usually based on the principle of electromagnetic induction used to convert the electrical energy output of a headphone amplifier into acoustic energy. Popular nickname is "cans."

man, they really don't know what the hell they are talking about. regarding the ultrasones, they might as well have said "whereas 'aardvarks' can only eat small prey, the dorsal fin of the mega mouth shark allows the space cowboys to completely dominate the soundstage."
