I am slowly growing my collection of headphones. They all seem to be around 100 dollars.
Currently I have a AT-A500 and Ety ER6i's. Next on the list are some Allesandro's or Grado's of a similar price. So what do you think I should do to keep my 100 dollar headphone parade rolling?

Sony SA 1000, XD400?
Beyer 770 pro?
Sennheiser HD 580s?
AKG 271?

Throw out some suggestions and by the end of the summer I will give a LARGE review of 100 dollar headphones. Around 6 pairs probably. Really looking for some open phones. Basically I want the sound signature from EVERY big player in the high end market before I really move up. I really like my audio technicas. But I am just getting started.

Damn you Head-Fi! I am starting to make DIY cables too. GRR!!!

Buy a Sony ex81 and popularize it with me.

Team Benjamin Franklin / Sub-$100 heh. I've sort of restricted myself to the $100 dollar mark before I ordered DT250s.

If you can get the HD580s for 100, damn good. Or else, you might consider new HD555s for around that price. SA1k would be interesting too, especially at domestic pricetag now. Then there's Alessandro MS-1. Good luck, and good reviewing.

I'll see what I can do. A bunch of my friends have grados and I am a bit jealous. I just love the smoother sound of my audio technicas. But it should be a journey.

Thanks for a more difinitive list. I wasn't really sure what AKGs and Beyers to buy. After the ms1 I am thinking SENN AKG BEYER SONY. I am hankering some open phones first.

I think the lowest you'll get the Beyer DT770 for is 150, but I'd be really curious to see how the closed headphone stacks up against those other nice phones.

Pls buy the upcoming Panasonic RP-HJE70, the successor to the HJE50s.

They're just launched last mth in Japan but I still can't find it anywhere in my local shops, might have to wait for a mth or two perhaps. Do give them a shot, I believe they're a pair of gd in-canal phones for under $100, just like the HJE50s.

Dying for a review of this.

Good luck finding an HD580, DT770, K271 for under $100. Used is certainly do-able for $100 though. I think theres a DT770-250 on ebay right now for $99 BIN.

Maybe some discontinued sony MDR CD series... I just got an MDR CD870 for $69 shipped, there are some CD780s new on ebay for $40 opening bid. HJow about a used MDRF1?

Phillips HP910 or HP1000 seem to get very good reviews, although Ive never heard one for myself.... They dont export them to the USA

MS-1 should be at the top of your wish list though IMHO... followed by an SR60.

I am trying to stay away from in canal stuff. I have the ER6i's which seem to be a good base to judge others though so I might get 1 other pair. The panasonics seem very interesting. They look GOOD.

And this is the near 100 dollar headphone list. Not the under 100 dollar headphone list. I am just trying to keep it close to 100.

MS1's Next and then "To Infinite, and Beyond!"

I will try to do the comparison next september. But it all depends on how much I spend on my speakers this summer. Could be soon could be later.
