I have a pair of Fostex TH900 mk1 with a replaced cable that is NOT detachable. I soldered it on the driver myself. It sometimes is much more quiet on the left side. I can EQ it with peace to level it out but it will kick back up to normal and be balanced with no issues at all.

I can’t find a rhyme or reason as to the cause. I just used the cans for hours and they were fine.

Should I replace the cable? Replace the drivers? Resolver it back on for a 3rd time?

Make sure no small bits of wire are touching, that will definitely cause the problem that you're having
