I need recommendation. I really want to do one last purchase to stop killing my wallet, and finally narrow down to fostex th900 and sony z7
 
Since the price of th900 now is almost equal to that of z7+pha3, and I am not going to upgrade my current amp if I choose th900, so the comparison is basically th900+fiio e12 vs z7+pha3
 
Yes, for portable use. I listen to EDM, hip hop and alternative rock.

I have not heard the Z7. I suspect the TH900 is the far superior headphone, even when driven by a modest Fiio amp. The TH900 is an awesome headphone.

HOWEVER - I'm not sure of the wisdom of taking a $1200 headphone with beautiful wood cups out for portable use. That just seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

By portable, I mean somewhere that is not my home, for example in a library, in an airport, etc. 
I won't wear $1200 on my head wandering around the street
 
So you think that th900 is good with e12? or should I get a hp-p1 or something?
