This is using PX-100s going through my Creative X-FI soundcard, to my Logitech Z-5500's and then out to the headphones.

I may try again using a more direct approach

Interesting, a more direct approach confirmed:

I tried this a few times, I generally score between 70 and 80% better than X, one time I got 89% but that's probably more luck than anything.
In the harder ones, I notice that I can hear some difference between the two tones that are played, but often I can't tell the if second tone is higher or lower.

Is there an easily accessible way to train to get better at this?

At 500 Hz you can reliably hear pitch differences of 0.90625 Hz, which means you did better than approximately 98.3% of people who took our test!

This is also from a sleep-deprived sick listener at 4AM who can't tell the difference between 256 and FLAC.

I would say that it's mostly dependent on your age... I'm probably younger than 98% of people taking the test, at 18.
