I'm not old enough to have seen him young, but I got introduced to him through "Live With Me - Massive Attack". One of the best modern/electronic blues rendition in my opinion.
 
And then also, Late Night Tales (Cinematic Orchestra), which includes "You're Gonna Miss Your Candyman".
 
They don't make music like this anymore. 
 
In these couple of years, many great artists have left us. I think we're witnessing a generation of musicians pass.
 
And I'm afraid there's no one to take on the mantle.
