I like the idea of the video, but like others have said, it may be a little too slow and not really to the point. Other than that I think your on the right track.

I also like the idea of putting it on an iPod and handing it to her, sorta like an electronic invitation.

Well the video still doesn't make much sense, but the shorter version is much better..

I'd say unless you're 100% sure she wants to go with you and this is just going through the motions because girls like to be asked instead of assumed that they will be going, you may be toast on this one.

But if you already know she'll go with you, you should be fine.

edit: Ah, so it does. Good luck with prom there mate. Dinner and the after party were fun experiences for me. Prom itself was pretty ho-hum.
