I believe someone might have posted this before, but Stax has a new system out that is very tempting. It costs $689 and includes an enhanced Basic Earspeaker and a vertical SRM-300 headamp.

Sounds like a good deal considering the SRM-300 costs $800 alone on HeadRoom.

EDIT: The SRM-313 is $800 on Head-Fi.

I have been looking to replace my SennsHD600s with something better for classical music. The response I keep getting from people is "buy a Cardas Cable and stay with the Senns" or "buy a new amp and stay with the Senns."

This way I could get a new amp and a new headphone. Do you this that this Stax system would be better than my current system for classical music?

Thanks.

PS - For some reason on Stax's website it is refered to as the "Stax SRS-3010 Earspeaker System" rather than the "3000" earspeaker system. Is there a difference?

Haven't seen any specs yet on the SRM-310, but my guess is the 313 might very well still be a superior amp if they're pairing the SR-202 earspeakers with the new amp. So if the SRM-313 costs more, it might be justified.

The SRM-300 costs $10 less on AudioCubes 2 than the SRM-313.

I am thinking of creating my own combo of the Signatures + SRM-313 for $800 on AudioCubes 2. Sound good?

Basically, will I like Stax's (the Omega 2 not included) more than my Senns?

Which setup should I get?

Considering how small the populous of Hawaii is, I am suprised that the only two people that have replied to my thread are from Honolulu

That's a tough question to answer, short of your own ears. If you're asking me, I'm obviously going to say I dig Staxs way more than the Sennheiser HD-600.

Might want to just hit the good ole search button and decide for yourself.

I wonder why they have to be so damn ugly, maybe it's some zen-like philosophy from the designers that you must not care about looks if you want them.

Although the omega-2 sure looks good to me

Should be a great combo for classical. I have the Signatures and the previous generation SRM-3 amp and like it much more than the HD600. As always, however, audition first if at all possible.

Is there any real difference between the signature earspeakers and the classic ones? the price difference is so low it makes me wonder.

Only the colours, I think. However, the SR-404 Signature headset has a lower capacitance cable, which is a bit bulky as a result.

Keep in mind also that Stax doesn't sound so good with a source that's not up to par. With the 555ES in redbook, I keep on thinking that something was missing.
