OriginalReaper,

i would not recommend the small pedals, straps and cages unless you have a narrow hard-soled shoe to use with it.

the platform pedals [ie. Wellgo B38] is a much better match with your shoes.
platform pedals have a very large contact area, you shoes will last longer on these.

smaller pedals have a very small contact area, will wear out your shoe quickly.
you will feel the pressure points [with straps and cages also]

Another option is to buy clipless pedals, you would have to buy matching shoes [generally these are not good for walking around in]. Best system in terms of riding efficiency, higher cost, low mobility.

Do you need to take your feet off the pedals frequently for traffic?
note: platform pedals with straps is dangerous, you foot may not release fast enough.

Yes, I make various stops (traffic related.) I used to feel the pain from riding on small pedals, but that doesn't happen anymore. I don't see how surface area matters when pedaling. Straps (which I used for a while) didn't impede at all during the past year.

These look nice. Shimano Ultegra seems to be a good line.
