TEAC UD-301

A followup to my last post,

Looks like my issue is specific to Airport Express and Airplay.

I tested the optical out on my macbook and I was able to upsample to 88.1 & 176.2

Apparently the optical signal the Arport Express sends out is garbage.

I found these threads on the same issues:

Thread: Apple Airport Express Having Dropouts While Streaming Music

http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f22-networking-networked-audio-and-streaming/apple-airport-express-having-dropouts-while-streaming-music-27655/

And lots of threads like this on Apples support site:

Airport Express (square) skips unbearably with Airplay

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4104819?start=0&tstart=0

So good to know the problem is not with the DAC.
But somewhat bummed that I can't do the upsampling on the music to the Airport Express.

Yeah, I was waiting until I got home to test and verify on my Win7/foobar setup. Using the optical input I can send it any supported bitrate up to and including 24/192, or any lower bitrate and have the UD-301 upsample 2x or 4x without any hiccups.

I don't have a RS1i but my RS2e sounds pretty good with the UD-301.  I like my EL8o on them a lot, pretty good pairing

Thank you DavidA, ordered the amp.   Have the Audeze Deckard from a just plain computer with an X-Fi soundcard with front panel and foobar2000 and it's night and day.  Just worried with it getting extra warm and thus question the longetivity of this unit.  Does the TEAC get extra warm also?

Thanks again

Mine stays quite cool and I have my MB Bifrost on top of it.  My Lyr2, Asgard2 and BH Crack get hot, so I have rigged USB powered fans to cool them, highlighted in yellow circle

Thanks for the replies!  Excited to test it out!  At the moment can't stop listening thru the Deckard.
