What would you suggest to transfer audio files on my computer onto cassette tapes? (some kind of cassette recorder with line-in, I guess?) All I have in my car is a tape player, so I need to put stuff onto a tape to play it in there. I probably want something on the less-expensive side of things, if expensive tape recorders actually exist.

Burn em, then CD to Tape with a CD/Cassette deck. That is if you
own one. If not, then I guess line-out from your comp to your
line-in of your reciever and record with your cassette deck. But
hum, I'd strongly recommend you getting a CD player in your car
or something.. You can get some good ones for like, $150. That
would be 100000x better than cassette.

I get the feeling that you want to use the tapes in a portable player?
Yes you can do this, you need a soundcard with a Line Out and tape recorder with Line In or Tape In inputs. You should be able to find a tape recorder on ebay, cheap. Once you have everything, hook it up, press record on the tape recorder and play on audio player on the puter. I would suggest using a program that will allow you at arange your track list before hand and make the play time just shorter than one side of the cassette.
And yes, there are expensive cassette recorders and players out there... some still going for several hundred dollars. Digital audio has not yet reached the level of properly handled analog.
