T+A Solitaire P planar magnetostatic

I've had great results using the Sol P with the Manley Absolute. The Absolute is so flexible that with tube rolling it can be made to sound like almost anything (it always retains a slight bit of smoothness though). Also the Baxandall tone controls provide for another level of adjustability at the extremes without impacting the crucial midrange. For example it's a perfect solution for the Sol P's upper treble for those who find the Sol P slightly laid back in the upper registers.

It's an amp that has grown on me over time rather than blow me away on a first listen ... always a good sign. Just pair with a neutral, but detailed dac. At the risk of fanning the flames of controversy I also find that different power cords sometimes create a subtle filtering effect that are clearly heard through the amp.

The Fiio M17 is also a great match, even better overall than its older brother the M15 despite the M15 having an upper midrange response that in my opinion paired better with the Sol P to offset the depressed upper midrange issue. On its own the M17 drives the Sol P really well, actually pretty much at the level of a good desktop amp with excellent detail and control in the bass. I sometimes use it as a dac for the Absolute and get very good results with that combination.

M17 has the possibility of using a system level EQ (actually an Android 10+ feature), so you can EQ, for example Qobuz. I sometimes use the Poweramp EQ or Wavelet, which has some cool DSP features, too.

Thank you for your terrific and comprehensive review! Can you please share what were the settings, filters, and impedance you have settled for the HA200 + Soli P review?
Hey there. Thanks very much for the kind words.

I only adjusted the impedance to match each headphone - I left the loudness the same (medium) and used the same filter (NOS1), to keep it as like-for-like as possible. When I wasn't doing specific reviewing / comparisons, I ended up preferring the following:
  • Solitaire P - 18 ohm, FIR2, loudness high
  • Meze Elite - 12 ohm, BEZ2, loudness medium
  • Sennheiser HD800 - 80 ohm, NOS1, loudness high
  • Oriolus Traillii - 8 ohm, FIR1, loudness low

What were your selections for Cross-Feed and Bandwidth parameters?

just received a set of adaptors (Lemo to Solitaire-P) from Roy and Val @ Arctic Cables.

I had asked them to make me a set of adaptors a while back, but Roy asked if it was OK for me to wait a bit whilst they tried to perfect the adaptor build for this headphone. after some time, they emailed back saying they had come up with something good and had sent it out to me.

the adaptors connect with a satisfying click and are easy enough to pull out from the SolP connection port. as the P connector portion sits well inside the tunnel, removing it requires you to pull on the cabling+lemo portion. thankfully, they feel sturdy enough that there isn't much concern about yanking the adaptors and leaving some portion in the port.

they weigh exactly 15g each, about 2g lighter than the adaptors from Sean @ Affinity. I could feel the cable+long adaptors resting on my upper front chest, but with the shorter adaptors, I don't encounter that anymore. so comfort wise, I give the nod to Arctic.

build wise, both are constructed very well. I asked for these adaptors from Roy because I wanted something using the same material as my headphone cable, and he certainly delivered!

They look great!
I have the same two questions.
I have the Kimber AG cable for my Utopia and want to use it with the coming Solitaire P.

Can somebody do me the favor of measuring the inside diameter of the opening in the Solitaire P cups for the cable?

The Furutech HD800 connectors apparently have an outside diameter of 8.5mm and I am not sure if they would fit in.

I use a Furetech HD800 connectors on 2 cables and they are a hair less than 8.5mm. The opening is somewhere in the 9mm range. A little tough to get an accurate measurement with the opening. My 8.5mm connectors works fine.

@brams and @musicman59

they're made with pure silver. that adds a chunk to the cost and makes them a fair bit costlier than Sean's adaptors.

imo, for aesthetic, matching to my main hp cable, and a overall shorter length, they're worth it. but I do think, if Sean can shorten his adaptor, then it'll do the job just as fine.

Anyone can PM for a solid Sol P dealer? Looking to pay a good dealer price if possible. Thank you.
