Since everytime i put my zune to sync it also starts charging the battery, is each sync and resulting disconnect considered a battery charge cycle?

No, running the battery to discharge and recharging it is considering a battery charge cycle. What you are doing would be a partial discharge cycle. If you can go 8 hours (for example) and you listen 2 hours then recharge, it would take 4 of those to equal a discharge cycle more or less.

Li-ion batteries aren't significantly affected by charge/discharge cycles, older lithium and NiMH ones are. Just charge/sync Li-ion batteries anytime you feel like.
