Retro gaming is basically free if you already own a PC. Even a cheap Android tablet or Nvidia Shield TV can play a lot of retro systems. It's only expensive if you stick with original hardware and games, or you add something like a RetroTink 4K scaler. I'm picking up a SuperStation One when it releases, but only because I want to try hardware emulation and I like the form factor.
Switch 2 - $499 gets you a console and a game bundled in. $450 for just the console. I thought I read $90 games was a misprint or something similar. $80 is definitely real, though. No matter how you slice it, $80 per game is tough to swallow.
The launch is weak without a Mario platformer game. Mario Kart was never my thing. The N64 version was a fun party game, but single player it's not for me. 256GB today is not enough storage, and the Switch 2 takes a new spec of MicroSD card. This is from the Lexar site, "The Lexar® PLAY PRO microSDXC™ Express Card is available in 1TB for an MSRP of
$199.99" What.In.The.Actual.F...

I haven't owned a Nintendo console since the Wii. I still play it. Still connected in the living room. There's some Switch games I'd like to catch up on like the Zelda series and some Mario. I might get a Switch 2 eventually, but nothing about the launch screams I have to have it now.
I'm ok with the price of the console. I spent more on my Steam Deck + official Dock + Steam Controller. At least with the Switch 2 you get the dock included and the controllers are detachable, so you don't really need to buy a separate controller unless you just want the pro controller.
Where's the Morpheus meme; What if I told you in 2025 you could spend $500 to play Cyberpunk at 30FPS.
