Got lucky, went to the Sony store in Old Orchard Mall, Chicago to take a look at the Sony A818. Sales guy says they have some open box models. He tells me they were the window models during Christmas (means they were not demos for people to play with). 40% off, $119. Not a scratch or fingerprint. Sweet.

For those in Chicago, they have an 8GB A616 (I think, the 600 model) for $108. Same open box type, and them have some other memory size models left.

Unfortunately, they did not have any more of the 818 models (that's why I settled for a sliver when I really wanted a black one), but you might want to call/check other Sony stores besides the one I went to. They had one 618 for 107.

And yes, I am definitely treating it with some great IEMs. Currently it sounds INCREDIBLE with my Klipsch Image, simply INCREDIBLE.

Getting some SE530's by the end of the week also.

The SQ on this little player is steps above a 4-5G ipod.

I didn't think this question warranted me starting a new thread, so I'll ask it here.

How do you set up a a818 so it's "amp ready"?

Once again, sorry for thread the hi-jack

You really don't need to amp the Sony. The volume and quality are high enough. I think tstarn06 actually tried the Sony with an amp - and said it sounded better and cleaner without it. Why do you want to amp it out of interest? You said the Image sounded great with it.

Oh, I am not meaning to amp it. The Image/Sony is my ultraportable rig, don't need to add any more bulk and it sounds great.

I was just trying to help Eiop out, and also trying to reach the 50 post mark so I can sell my Denons.
