Hi everyone,

Im kinda new to the scene as to speak, and am looking for a new set of headphones that are affordable, as in under $100.

I currently have the audio technica ad700 and am pretty happy with sound signature, but would like a little bit more bass, not an overpowering amount though. So gar my search has lead me to either the the superlux hd681 evo or the edifier h850. Which is better. I am also open to other options as well.

Thanks in advance

Is there a reason you prefer these over the other options I listed above? Do they have a special sound signature or are they more neutral sounding, also do these need amped?

Thanks

With the ATH-AD700, you have a fairly good headphone, it just lacks bass.
Where as the Gemini HSR-1000 will give you that bass, more then the HD-681, not sure about the Edifier.

do you have any experience with the takstar hi2050, I will be using this mainly for watching movies off my iPad, and also listening to mostly movie sound tracks, Lindsey stirling, and other similar artist.

I did own the Takstar Hi2050, I believe I gave them to my nephews last year, very decent headphones for the price.
I like the sound of the Gemini HSR-1000 a little bit better.

The treble on the Hi2050 is slightly off.
The Hi2050 might offer a little more bass then the AD700 (which I also own), but I think the AD700 would be considered better in all other areas.

You might consider selling off the ATH-AD700, then see how much you could budget for headphones.
Maybe find a good deal on some used ATH-AD900X?

The AD900x would be a bass upgrade, but listening to both, to me it's not like, "wow, this has so much more bass than the AD700x."  It's more subtle than that.  It's an upgrade, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.  But, if you want an AD700 with a little more bass, there you go.

The main thing about the Pro 80/HSR-1000 is it's closed, so that would be quite a change from the AD700.  The soundstage is not big on the 80/1000.  The 2050 are open, but open with two holes in the middle, and general consensus is they have a disappointing soundstage for open.  I've never heard them.

I think the EVO is great other than it feels cheap, and the tension headband is a little strong.  Soundstage isn't as big as the AD700, but it's bigger than the Pro 80/HSR-1000, and has that "open" feeling, because it is.

If you want more bass, the EVO has more bass.  Maybe too much bass.  I usually eq it down a little.  A little eq tweaking on the EVO and it's really something imo.  Pro80/HSR-1000 sounds really good too, just it's closed, and the pads are a bit small, and the soundstage size isn't great.  Can't go wrong with either one really unless you will miss the huge soundstage of the AD700, which not many headphones have.

Superlux 668b/Samson SR850 might also be of interest.  I'd have to double-check, but they should have more bass than AD700x.  I just listened to them again the other day for a few hours.  They certainly don't lack bass, though it's kind of one-note bass.  They have a bigger soundstage than EVO, but EVO sounds better imo.

If you are looking for something with more bass from Edifier we have the H840s. Comparing them with the H850s they have a much more pronounced bass while the the highs and mids sound better on the H850s. Also the H840s are much cheaper than the H850s.

Somewhat surprisingly, I disagree with you, Thomas)) I still own both of them, and my perception is still like that: in bass region they are equal, but not similar, rather different. Mids are of equal quality too, H850 just more analytical, monitoring sounding HPs. But highs are better on H840, more extended at least. So the more expensive ones is more linear (analytical), the cheaper is more fun sounding. All IMHO of course.
