Hello all, just opened my account so I guess I'll provide a little history. I recently got drawn into the headphone world via the Massdrop HE4xx offering. It was love at first listen and that led to the purchase of a Schiit stack. I'm now greatly enjoying this combination.

Anyway, I decided that since I liked the HE4xx's so much I would see what a step or two (or three or four) up the pricing scale would get me, so after reading all 60+ pages of the Sundara thread I decided to roll the dice and order a pair. Aaaaaand I would up rolling snake eyes: They arrived today and the left channel died after ten seconds of listening.

So back they go; I have no desire to spend any more time with that kind of QC even if I do like the HE4xx's. With that in mind, does anyone have any suggestions on a (reliable) alternative in the same general price range?

If you want a closed-back-beryllium-dynamic to use at home or on-the-go, check out the Campfire Audio Cascade. I will be able to hear it in a few weeks, but it is already getting great reviews and the only one I saw used here went for $730 (MSRP is $800) and sold in an hour or two.

Here is the link to the company’s shop and the cascade:

Also, if you are interested in getting into in-ears and have the cash to buy it, the Campfire Audio Andromeda is a very popular pick, with a “holographic” sound signature:
