Sumiko "The Head Box" MKII

I listened to it when I was purchasing my AKG phones and I brought my Denon player as my comparison amp and the Sumiko was just not there. Are you in SE PA?

2X

Last time I listened to both the HeadBox and the HeadBox SE [both Pro-Ject products, distributed by Sumiko], I had to turn the pot to almost 5PM to get to a listenable volume.

And this was with a pair of HD-650's.

I have that amp in my inventory. IMO there's certainly enough power (turning quarter is loud enough with my dt990pro) to drive 300 Ohm cans but quality is a different case, which I can't say anything (bad source and no good amp to compare with).

In my amp, the volume pot is quite poor.. little unbalanced especially with low volume rates with my senns hd595 (50 Ohm)..working much better with my beyers (IMO).

Arietta is coming..

Do yourself a favor, take your HP and a few well recorded disks and go to shop and listen to whatever they have. Then go listen somewhere else, it is welll worth the effort. It is hard for us to speculate on what sounds good to you.

While I can't speculate for the entire line of headamps, both I auditioned extensively [HeadBox SE and HeadBox II] had very poor volume pots.
