I listen to music in my living room, sat in the corner with the laptop. The family have asked that I get some headphones that do not leak sound. My PX200s dont leak sound, but they are not comfortable enough for long sessions. I would prefer around ear (over ear, not on ear

), so full sized headphones like my K702s and NS1000s. Budget is up to £100. Thanks.

Thanks rodentdog. If someone was sitting next to you on a couch in the living room, would they be able to hear any sound from the Beyers?

Depending on the exchange rate and whatnot, I bet you can get a pair of M50s for under 100 pounds; that would be another pair to try.

I have a check on the AT range and the M35s look interesting and a similar build. Can you confirm how much sound that they leak? Otherwise I have found the M50s at £110.

The SRH240 and 440 appear to be made the same way, so I assume they also leak no sound, which is ideal thanks.

I should tell you that I don't actually own the M50s yet; I've done a lot of research and decided I'm going to get them next month. All I was trying to do is give you another option that you could go try out.

I can't find anything giving a comparison between the M35 and M50 though, so I wouldn't buy them off the reviews for the M50; see if you can audition them yourself.

Thanks again for the responses. The present shortlist

AT ATH-ES7, with metal backs at £95 off Play.com and £84 off Amazon with a very good customer review. I will read further on the various ATH Ms.

Shure SRH440, at £99 off Play.com and £89 off Amazon.

The Beyers are over budget. I have not liked the Denons I have tried, so the other main manufacturers I can think of are Sennheiser and AKG. All, suggestions or confirmation of the above short list welcome thanks.

I have a pair of ATH-ES7: they do not leak much, but they're quite uncomfortable for long sessions. My plan was to use them at work, since they're also good looking, but now I'm moving to something else. FYI my short list includes SRH840, ATH M50 and AKG K271.

After reading up on the ATH -ES7, I see they are on ear and I think I would prefer over ear. So I have added the Sennheiser HD280s (£80) and the AKG K171s (£89) to the list along with the Shure SRH440s.

You could also consider the Beyerdynamic DT 150 although they might not be good for you for long-term periods (they are for me, however) not to mention they sound very good, too.

In terms of isolation, I can say that the AKG 271/272 series is very impressive. I was in an airport today, and at any moderate listening level you cannot even hear airline announcements, let alone conversational noise. They also sound terrific for a closed can. I believe for the market price you can often find them at (~$150 = 93 pounds), they are within your budget. Something to consider. Happy shopping!
