Hey guys.

I'm looking for a decent headphone amp.

MY current setup is for post casting with a mac.

I am running
Heil Sound PR40
M-Audio Fast track C-400
AKG-K240 MKII

I'm using the DAC built in to the C-400 its pretty good 24bit

Back to my question with this setup what would you guys suggest as a decent Headphone amp.

Thanks

You could take a look at a Schiit Asgard. I got one of those, and it's a great amp. I love it. Drives all my headphones of varying requirements quite well, even the tough load of the SE-50. I'm not sure what you were looking to spend, but for about $250, I think this amp is a good deal. It worked well with my K240 Studio as well. It tightened up the bass a bit and made the headphone sound slightly clearer overall. Not much more detail, but the K240 (studio) isn't exactly a detail monster. Nonetheless, it's a good amp that you could take a look at. Just my two cents.

The AKG K240 MKII (55-Ohm) are not a demanding headphones.
I'm not sure it's worth it to buy a separate headphone amplifier.
You would want a Solid state amplifier (current), where as tubes (voltage) are good for high Ohm headphones
The Fiio E9 (solid state) might be about as much as you would really need to spend, $116.
A Little DOT 1+Hybrid, $140, might be a good buy. It's both solid state and tube.

I'd say FiiO E5 or E6.  They both have about just enough power for taking those headphones to pretty loud volumes.  Unlike a lot of sound interface outputs, they have close to 0 ohms output impedance, so the midbass and overall frequency response will be at the "correct" level from such an amp.  HD 240 MK II has a resonant hump in midbass impedance, like many headphones, so this interacts with any significant source output impedance:

+1 for the O2 if you want value for money.

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions.

Now if I were to throw my EMI into the mix even though I only use them out of the house, Would this change the suggestions drastically? I wasn't thinking portable amp wanted something for the how but if I did go portable I would want to take advantage of my EMI

I currently have an love them can't say enough good things about them .

Monster Miles Davis Trumpet headphones
-- I have no ??? what the specs on these however they sound great on my iPhone and computer with 320bit audio even though there pretty much max'd out as well..

Ok I am not that good this Audio math.
What would be the current MAX volume I am Getting with my current setup?

Specs
M-Audio FastTrack C-400

Max Output Level into 32 Ohms -2.0dBV at THD < 0.03% into 32 ohms
Power into Ohms 20 mW into 32 ohms
Channel-to-Channel Crosstalk < -70dB
SNR -104dB, A-weighted
Dynamic Range 104dB, A-weighted
Frequency Response 20Hz to 20kHz, +/- 0.3dB
Working Range 24 to 600 ohms

AKG K 240 MK 2 Studio
Sensitivity 91 dB/mW, 104 dB/V
Frequency range 15 to 25,000 Hz
Rated impedance 55 ohms
Max. input power 200 mW

Thank you all again for taking the time to educate me..

K240 actually needs more power than Q701.

I have the K242hd which is pretty much the exact same headphone +velour pads -detachable cable. it actually needs a fair amount of power, almost 50% more on the volume dial above my denon D2000. So i would say he needs an amp.

Good choice! I think you'll enjoy your amp. I know I do with all my cans. And yes, please post a review if you get the chance. I'd love to see what you're thoughts are on this setup as opposed to mine with the Studio.
