Hi,

a friend of mine is looking for new IEM which should not costs more than 200€.

What can you suggest in general? He would take more than one in order to test it.

I'm a big fan of Campfire Audio (I have the Andromeda), so it is obviously that I say Campfire Audio Comet. Do you know better IEM for this price range? The IEM could cost a bit more – if it would be worth.

I hope, you can help with the search.

S.

No probs. thanks for the link. Yep the Comet gains re high frequencies. But for me the e4000 wins re a more fuller sound. That's just my personal view. What I like about the e4000 is the shape and its form factor. ie Simple design.

It is unfortunately also very hard to find here in Germany. And for a "test" it would be maybe impossible to find…

Understand, Final Audio are a boutique brand and impossible to test here in Europe. Purchased mine via Amazon from suggestions here on Head-fi. Probability the best IEM within its price point but again to reiterate it shines with a bit of amp.

Give BGVP DM6 a try. I enjoy them more then Andromedas lately. Source is Sony WM1A. Music mostly classical, acoustic and jazz. Bought them just to check if the hype is true.

Second the E4000, the Comet has build quality issues and sounds pretty dead to me, mostly because of the BA's limitations. Both are fairly relaxed, the E4000 does mids and bass a hell of a lot better, treble on both the Comet and the E4000 aren't really the focus.

The Comet cable is straight up awful though, the Comet being a heavier IEM will strain the dainty Litz cable at the connectors, and to top it off, static shocks change the volume of the inline remote (and yes, I emailed CFA about it, they said this was a widespread issue).

So if not for the dead sound of the Comet's single BA, don't buy it due to the build quality. Better sound can be had for much cheaper anyways.

Personally, I sold the Comet after buying the E4000, it was no contest.

This is the actual list of IEM. I will read the reviews with my friend and we will see what we will buy to test. All of them can be bought on Amazon – also the FA E4000.

Oriveti New Primacy
Pai Audio MR2
Optoma Nuforce HEM 2
Sony XBA N3AP
BGVP DM6
Final Audio E4000 (maybe not because too bassy)
Campfire Audio Comet (maybe not – see post 11)
