I want to output SPDIF data to my Cambridge Audio Dacmagic feeding a Schiit  Audio Magni into HD 600's. I just discovered that my onboard USB is 16 bit 48k max. The DAC will accept 24bit 96k through SPDIF or 24bit 48k through USB.
Any suggestions? I don't need  Dolby, an expensive built in headphone amp or fancy DAC's. I just want to output up to 192k 24 bit data for future proofing.

So, you do not want to output gaming and movie headphone surround sound thru a sound card's optical.
Just basic 2-channel stereo sound, thru the optical.

The Asus Xonar DG can output 24-bit/96Khz, $27
The Xonar DS can output 24-bit/192Khz, $43
