Hi Guys,

I just got an SVS PB12-NSD subwoofer, and I'm hoping to get some advice on how to place it. I had two ideas:

1. Place it right next to the couch (to the side, next to a wall), with the subwoofer driver facing toward the front speakers.
2. Place it right next to the couch (to the side, next to the wall), with the subwoofer driver facing behind me, toward the same direction as front speakers.

Would either of these configurations work? I'd prefer to minimize directionality, but I'm not sure if these would cause any problems. I'm going to be using a 75-80Hz cross-over frequency. This is in a 10x20 room. Of course I can always try to squeeze the sub in near my front speakers, but this would be a major pain.

Any thoughts on which of these might sound best?

Low frequencies are non-diredtional so you don't have a problem with that. In th eother hand perfromance of the subwoofer varies based in position. The closer you get to a room corner the more bass you will get. It's know that the theorical optimum position is in either of the corners behind your front speakers. This will not only help to creat more bass but also integrate the subwoofer better to the sound of the front speakers which is a critical point for a good articulated sound.

if corner position is not possible then somewhere along the front wall is the next prefered position. I would not place it where you are thinking about.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice. I'll put it in a corner next to the front speakers.
