As the title states, I am looking for a pair of closed back headphones to replace my HE-400's. I want the same sound signature (V with great bass), although perhaps a bit more flat (yet still retaining the fun signature). It has to be less than 500$; portability is a bonus, but not obligatory

I'm not sure if those exist. The mad dogs kinda have the same upper mids reccession with flat bass, and no crazy sibilance, but i wouldn't call them fun.

Denon maybe?

Like the d5000? Other than a tad bit too much bass (which I can just EQ), they might fit the bill. Another aspect I would like to see is good isolation (Otherwise I could kind of just stick with the HE-400's), and apparently the D5000's don't isolate too well. Are there pads that could be purchased to increase this aspect?

perhaps this thread will be useful to you.

If i had to recommend balanced closed phones, they would be the nad viso hp50, focal spirit pro, and the focal spirit classic. I's say the classic will match your tastes better than the other two. source

best of luck
