Hi,

I'm looking for new earbuds, cheap ones

I had a pair of Senns MX500, and some cheap Koss, but both are out of order now.

What would you advice for this pricerange?

Does it have to be earbuds?

For this price range, you cant beat the ksc-75's, which are clip ons...

Sony MDR-E838

I removed the plastic covers and the plastic membrane between the driver and the plastic cover, which improved the sound substantially. Overall, I find I actually like them better than either my old E888s or ATH-CM7.

Yes I'd prefer something small like earbuds

I'm actually considering buying a new pair of MX500 (or maybe MX550, and I even saw MX750 in a shop but never heard of them)

Sony MDR-E829V, bought them for $20 at Shirokiya, they sound damn good for the price and since they're so cheap it doesn't matter if they get wet or thrown about, highs are clear, mids are just right, bass is a little muddy but still best I've heard in this price range. Only thing the plug wears out after about 7 months of very frequent usage, my dad has them now though

Yes I considered those, but I'm not looking for canalphones

I may buy some soon but not right now, and that day I'll have to check between the ep630, the plug, the sonys and maybe some others

Haha, I'm betting on the choice coming down to the EP630 or 'maybe some others'.

(Since the Plug and the other Sonys aren't worth considering.

) But that is a story for another time.

As for me, the only decent earbud I've owned is the MX500 so I can't comment on comparisons. They sounded decent to me though.

I thought the point of the 450/550 was more bass. i guess not?

The MX400 is the same as the MX500, except without the volume slide (which may even decrease sound quality).

I'm looking for the best buds too (under $50. I have KSC 75s but I'm going to try using my phone for music going to/from work and for the summer I'm looking for ultra-compactness). From searching on here it seems like it always come down to either the MX400/500 and the Sony MDR-E838 or E888.

can anyone who has owned both Senn and Sony buds give a comparison?

I think someone said that the Sonys had more bass and treble but the Senns sounded more natural (with limited bass). How are the Senns for rock? (for me, I don't need bloated, boomy bass but I would like there to be SOME bass).

Weren't the MDR-E838 only available as an OEM.... with some MD players? (Not sold separately)?
