Hello head fi community, I was looking for a pair of closed cans in the sub $200 range to go along with a cheap dac/amp. any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Here is what I was looking for:
(1. Headphones MUST have a detachable cable
(2. I prefer circum-oral headphones
(3. I would like a bit more bass than is normal with extended highs
(4. dac/amp should be under $100
(5. Semi-Portable, I would appreciate the cans to be at least mildly portable for public use

That is it, let the comments commence,

Thanks, Graham

Hello,

Will you be using your laptop/PC, tablet, iPod, Or smartphone for this set up? Would be nice as well if you can include the genre of music you listen to!

For amp/DAC, there is the E10 for laptop only but if at all you wish to use the amp section on your iPod, go for the E07K + FiiO L9

As for headphone, I recommend
Shure SRH 840 (sweet mids, decent soundstage and if you miss bass, you can always turn up the bass using either of the amp/DAC I suggested

Ultimate Ears UE6000 (if at all you need more sub-bass and don't mind the slight recessed mids, also decent soundstage here. The UE6000 also offer a Active NC)

AKG K167 (forward mids, with roll off at both ends but does sound great with your genre of music)

Hope it helps!
Billson :)
