i see...
its just the format of the cd player then...

but do all cds have redbook format ?

i notice that my discmans sometimes wont be able to play certain CDs that i just bought.... usually the new ones...

but those CDs that my discman cant read, when i put them in my PC, they have their own built-in music player (instead of using media player for example)

maybe thats why my discman cant read them....

PS: so what other formats for CD are there ?

For a cd to be pure redbook format you'd basically only have music in wav-format on it. Nowadays when you include music videos, interviews, etc the cd itself isn't true redbook anymore, but the songs themselves are still in that format as they have to be for compatibility issues. Some cdplayers do have problems with newer cd's though with the added extra features, not to mention all these copy protections.

that exactly what happens to my discman.
if they wanna give feature, i reckon they should put them in additional cd or something, and just leave the music as in pure state.

what really annoys me is, as you know, some new cds have their own media player, and everytime i put them in my PC, they will always ask for installation.

same thing with DVD too..
