I'd like to think I know my way around the mess of cables that hide behind my desk. However, when my roommate handed me a Sony STR-DG510 Multi Channel AV Receiver, I ran into a wall. Currently I'm using two Studiophile BX8s for my computer sound. They are both using a 1/4" Mono TRS cable which terminates in a blah blah not important.

My question is; can I throw studio monitors like these on a receiver, or is the fact that they're powered outside of the receiver an issue? If not, the monitors have an XLR input as well as a TRS. Can I get a balanced line which terminates in the two leads which the receiver uses on one end, and an XLR on the other? Where should I look for that?

I've been looking on google for awhile, searching this forum and asking a few people I know, but been turning up blanks. Thanks for the help!

The Sony STR-DG510 does not have preamplifier outputs, so it cannot be used with powered monitors. Otherwise, you'd just connect the RCA preamp outs to your speakers' inputs.
