I'm a bit concerned that my system has been compromised, or at least my e-mail password has been hacked.

Today, I received an e-mail that seems to originate from myself (same e-mail address as the one that I used to receive the e-mail). The subject title was merely: 586876. And in the body of the message was the number "969", and nothing else.

I'm hoping that my website provider is just doing some sort of maintenance, but I'm not so certain. Has anyone ever encountered anything like this?

Obviously this is the first sign of todays apocolypse, the devil has hacked your mail. Ive been wondering where he went...

I keep gettign an email from some guy every 2 hours or so. It just reads

"4 8 15 16 23 42"

Eventually I'll work it out.

It's possible to spoof the e-mail address headers, so someone playing a joke on you could have sent that to you.

Got the same thing this morning, except my subject was "557".

I received a similar email a week or two ago... In fact, more than similar...nearly identical... the email was from me, to me, with a number in the title & a number in the text field. This occurred on my work email address...I informed our company IT department, but I've heard nothing from them about it

I have the same fears as you.

Wow, I had the same exact problem and I think the numbers were the same too. I'm not 100% sure though. At the time I thought it was one of my friends who did it because I was in my Computer Science class and I went to the washroom when I was still signed on to Google Homepage.

EDIT: It happened a couple of days ago, and I'm using GMail.

I whois'd the IP I found in the header and came up with a France base server, a Wanadoo IP to be precise. Further digging required I think.

Sounds like there's been a major hacking project undertaken due to the 6-6-6 deal...

I got this too yesterday, the subject was "455", and the message was "969". I figured that it was just spam, but it's strange that alot of people are getting it.

I just checked my spam box on gmail, and voiala, subject is 57657, body is 969 and sender is me.
