Okay well as the topic states my ipod was stolen. Ive done enough sobbing so no more needed here. I am just looking for a new dap within the price range of 200-300 bucks. Keep in mind i have a corda move and grado sr-60's but plan on getting a pair of custom iems very soon(before next semester at college hopefully) so with a nice pair of custom iems in your mind and the corda move(mabye will use it portably). Can i get a couple of recommendations of some dap's. I listen to mainly v0 mp3's but love flac for my favorite albums and i dont see much of a purpose for more than 32gb of memory(flash is something i want...i think

) If i could just get some suggestions as to the best SQ options out there in my price range and keep in mind that it is fairly flexible.

thanks in advance

Cheers

was seriously considering cowon s9 but had some doubts after doing a search here on head-fi, some people were doubting it but wasnt able to find any reviews... any good links to some in depth and persuasive reviews would be great.

As for the ipod touch, also another consideration but i would definitly wait for the next generation if that were the case mac rumors said say around sept.

will either of these devices need an amp like my corda move to drive a custom pair of iems with dual drivers(not 3 drivers, too pricey for my pocket as of now) was thinking something along the lines of the JH-5 pro or will the DAP's themselves work fine?

Thank you Omari and i am also open to any other suggestions

what do you want in your dap?is it just music or you want to watch also videos?if you want a great review of the cowon s9 and other daps, you can find it at anythingbutipod.com the reviews on this site are great and the reviewer tests the daps with high quality phones and he is unbiased.

If you are only planning on using it for music and nothing else (including Wifi or an App Store), you might want to consider a player like the D2+ (16GB + 16GB SDHC). that would run you about $200 US on newegg, depending on the card you bought. S9 is arguably better SQ, but the cost would be higher (mainly for the OLED screen, which will probably be a waste for you).

The D2+ also does FLAC, but not gapless (at least not yet). SQ is very good, and will drive decent cans without an amp.

also whats the difference in battery life from the d2 to the s9

Has anyone heard anything goood about the new zune hd coming out?

S9 has slightly inferior listed battery life than the D2, but if you buy the 32GB version the S9 will almost certainly have better battery life than a D2 +16GB SD card because the card lowers the battery life. S9 supports gapless in FLAC, Ogg (I think, not 100% sure) and I believe even mp3 now with the new firmware.

Haven't heard much about the Zune HD, but I'm expecting to be disappointed. It will probably be overpriced and have great hardware and poor software. If it has a nice browser it could be a beast, but knowing microsoft - it won't have a nice browser.

i think im gonna go with the d2 because its a little cheaper and my parents are getting it for my birthday lol, i know they wont be willing to buy the 32g s9

i just read something about the d2 hissing alot, can anyone confirm this? especially with the fact that i would be using JH-5 pro custom iems, so if it does a lot of hissing with those im going to have to rethink my decision
