Still needs help!

Of the headphones mentioned in your poll, the only one I have ever owned was the HD595. I think it just about the best bang for the buck in the entire Sennheiser line, maybe even in the entire Headphone world.

One thing I will say is that my friend swears by the new-ish HD380 which I have not heard, but he owned the HD595 and says the 380s are basically a bassier version of the HD595 with the benefit of having a closed seal.

I don't know how accessible the HD380 is where you are, but the HD595 are a definite winner.........It does not need an amp, but I don't think it is the ultimate non-amp type headphone, it still benefits from an amp.

I would also look into the Ultrasone HD780. I think it may be a little bit more money than the 595, but I am a huge fan of Ultrasone these days and overall I think these may be one of the best headphones around for the price.

Well, in Hungary I cant get an Ultrasone unfortunatelly, but there is a bunch of closed sennheisers in the same price of the HD595 : HD25 SP II; HD 280 Pro; HD 380 Pro; HD 448

Yes I've read about it, but the HD595 also fits the budget so i'd buy that instead of modding the HD555.

But I'm still curious about the Denon though... its better than the M50s?

You can mod the 595's too.

Usually the mods turn it into a different animal. Maybe I should rephrase... UPGRADE!

I know, and I've read the threads here about modding the 595, but its not crystal clear for me yet (i mean the proceeding of the mod), but I think I have to buy something before I could mod it

Both the HD555 & HD595 does leak a lot of sound. Everyone in the room/bus will hear what you listen to.

If you're going to use the headphone for portable use, choose either the Audio-Technica M50 or Denon AH-D1001.

Kind Regards,
Force.

Now the most revelant thing is SQ, then comfort/isolation.
I have a Senn CX95 for noisy palces as I've mentioned a bit earlier.

The M50's are what I ultimately voted for.

I just compared the two and it came naturally.

The M50's are closed back so sound bleeding isn't an issue. They're also very accurate. But both 555 and M50 are great choices. I'm just a little partial to AT's.
