Got a spare 500£ that rolled in unexpectedly. Hmm Headphones... :D Maybe, not sure. but worth the look in any case.

Headphones I own Q701, K7xx, ATH-PRO700Mk2, X2, SHP9500, HE400i.  Trying to find the one that fits me the most is quite difficult. Try as best as you can and whenever I get the chance...Speakers ON!

I'm trying to have headphones that will make particular instruments sounds err juicy? Kinda hard to describe That is why I will give the shortcomings of my current headphones.

I will try to give examples based on these 5 songs. For the ease and to give an idea here are links to them.

I'm not an expert I say things as I see them if you got an issue with it, so what? My opinion shush.

Q701 - Quite interesting one It has a lot of detail if you are listening to "El Sol se Recuesta". But if you listen to "The Woven Web" The detail is lost into not distortion, but the lack of ability to play loads of sounds together...Cause there is a lot going on in "The Woven Web" but it just comes out as a noise with Q701. Not trough out the song, but in the most heavy parts. "Suliman" It gets close to get the guitar to sound the best, but it still lacks in something there. For my speakers that part is like UGH YEAH! For these they get the yeah part right, but just...
Also Q701 seems a bit piercing at time like the Sax in "Vandaag". Plasticy? The bass is there it is nicely detailed and a the same time it just isn't there...Like wah?

K7xx -  Not as fun or exiting as the Q701. You can appreciate the extra bass in songs like "Becoming insane" adds that thud that the song needs. "The Woven Web" is a bit distorted the bass is not tight enough...Also has the same problem that it cannot play everything together that good. slightly piercing still. Kinda muffles the same instruments I wish would stand out.

X2 - BASS There is just too much of it. I feel it is boomy You can notice it in "The Woven Web" It almost feels like it resonates. The song feels nice, but just something seems a bit much. "Becoming Insane" Can't complain much here X2 give that thud that I am looking for this one. And yeah the same feel I get from K7xx that the instruments that I want to stand out sound a bit muffled.

HE400i - I don't think this one has any sort of problem that bugs me...More of a case where it is so neutral that nothing stands out. Everything is detailed and you can hear everything, You can bash it all you want it doesn't lose anything. Aaaand then again it doesn't give anything. Instruments sound alright not juicy enough.

My speakers They don't have the most attention to small details, but overall sound is enjoyable. If there is an instrument it will damn sure sound like the real thing, there are no two questions about it.

Don't get me wrong all of these headphones are good, but it more comes down to personal preference. You want to listen to something simple without too much going on with great detail? Q701! (As long as you have instruments in your song even the bass will sound right...It's just the rest where the headphone struggles.) Want to listen to EDM and such get the X2! You like everything? 400i!

I listen to everything That is why it is so hard for me to find headphone that fit me and henc why I like the HE400i ATM because it does everything...Drawback being does nothing good. Well if my headphone upgrades have been for a reason, be it lack of bass in case of Q701 or lack of musicality in X2 case, then the next upgrade should be getting everything into one. I want that if not better instrument sound of Q701 combined with a bit more powerfull bass that will be present no matter the song along with the versatility of HE400i without having drawbacks. So basically a 400i with better sounding instruments. :D  Well say what you want but I enjoy wide variety of music genres, but if there is an instrument playing...UGH I want to hear it! definitely open sound as open as it can get.Fast is the word I will trow in.
