AFAIK, other than the size difference, there's no sonic qualities any one posseses. I suppose it could be argured that 1/4" has more contact area, and thereby you have a better connection. Personally, I love the more solid feeling "clunk" of 1/4", but hey, whatever cranks your tractor...
