kwkarth is correct.
It's actually very easy to open them. The soldering part of it is also very easy.

The only 'hard' thing is to come up with a strain relief. So you don't pull the cable off by accident. I used a tie strap.

I thought everything improved slightly. Nothing was immensly improved.
