My favourite headphone of all time is the SR-Omega. Given a choice, I'd take an SR-Omega or Omega II over the K-1000 any day of the week

... but then again the same can be said for the HE90.

The K1000 is great, but in my opinion it tries too hard to sound like speakers. If I wanted my headphones to sound like speakers, I'd listen to speakers instead..

Yesterday I got my first AKG K1000, so after few days I will be able to tell you something about Omega II and Mk2, and Ultrasone E9 against K1000. But even now I can tell, that K1000 sound is extremely natural and transparent. In my setup I also don’t find them bass-defective.

Yes, the K1000 may not go as deep as more conventional headphones but they are most certainly not defective or bass light. From 35Hz up they are great.
