3300US/2700Euro , some 10% discount on top of that is in the realm of possibilities although it's already discounted price from msrp: http://www.fujiya-avic.jp/products/detail6910.html

Again, domestic market only and last I checked no or few places at any stock, esp. not at these prices, so it's not like PJ has much to worry about...

For those in the UK who want the peace of mind of a "proper" bricks-and-mortar high end dealer AND get a discount without haggling, then the highend headphones company is offering a 10% discount at their new showroom launch party on 27th September in Bedfordshire (and at a hifi show this weekend).

I have no experience of their showrooms or service (but will find out soon), but I'm giving them a plug because it's good to have a proper high end showroom entirely dedicated to headphone systems. They also stock the Abyss, which will be interesting to compare for fun.

Anyway, that brings the 009 price down to £3,145, which is still more than current PJ quotes, but the gap has reduced.

Just got my 009s back from the alleged "nothing was wrong and we didn't fix anything" imbalance repair.

So far, they're fixed. I've been playing them for a few hours and no imbalance has resulted at all. (Previously, the imbalance was immediately apparent and got much worse over 15–30 minutes until the right driver was almost silent.)

That said, I still prefer the HE-6, so I'll be selling these and my Spritzer-built KGSSHV as soon as I'm confident that the imbalance is likely gone for good, probably after a couple of weeks. I'll post a thread in the sale forum here if I have enough rep or whatever to do it. Likely seeking $2700 shipped to USA for KGSSHV, and $3200 shipped to USA for SR-009.

Anyone owning a electrostatic headhphone might find this info useful.

Anyone has tried "vacuuming" their sr009 when channel imbalance occur ? Though do take note the diaphragm of 009 could be thinner than those of the ML speaker.

Will excessive smoke or dust cause any problems with your electrostatic speakers?

Exposure to excessive contaminants such as smoke or dust may potentially affect the performance of the electrostatic membrane, and may cause discoloration of the diaphragm membrane. When not in use for extended periods, you should unplug the speakers and cover them with the plastic bags in which the speakers were originally packed. It is a good idea to vacuum the electrostatic portion of each speaker three or four times a year. See the vacuuming FAQ.

I have been advised that electrostatics do not fare well in the long term in the humidity of our tropical climate. Is this true?

We should tell you that MartinLogan indeed has a very substantial number of customers in tropical regions of the world. Our speakers have been serving them nicely for many years. This concern may have come from our earlier design of speakers, which were charged continuously.

Since 1993, all of our speakers have been designed so that they only charge the panel while music is being played. This improvement has made a tremendous difference in the consistent performance of our product. There may be a little more maintenance involved in humid regions when not in an air-conditioned environment. Simply enough, the concern is to keep the electrostatic panels dust free. Humidity will combine with any dust on the panel to make it slightly conductive. This will result in a slight pathway for the charge to leave the membrane of the speaker. The solution is simple. They only require occasional vacuuming with a strong vacuum hose.

I think my MartinLogan speakers have developed a problem. The right speaker is hissing even when the amplifier is disconnected.

Your speakers are dusty. See the vacuuming FAQ. The electrostatic charge on the element has attracted airborne dust or pollen. Since 1993, all of our speakers have been built with a charging circuit board that only charges the electrostatic element when music plays. At other times they are not charged and cannot collect dust. You can get the same benefit by simply unplugging them whenever they are not in use. A power strip is an easy way to do that."

How do I vacuum my MartinLogan speakers?

Vacuuming will be most effective if the speakers have been unplugged for six hours to twelve hours (i.e. overnight). You need not worry about the vacuum pressure damaging the "delicate" membrane. It is extraordinarily durable. Dirt and dust may be vacuumed off with a brush attachment connected to your vacuum cleaner, or you may blow them off with compressed air. When vacuuming or blowing off your panels do so to both sides, but focus the majority of your attention on the front of the panels.

I would be very worried about putting a vacuum anywhere near the 009 driver units. A distance away may be ok, but care is required. This advice is not coming from Stax. BUT I DO think the idea of killing the amp when not in use is good advice IMO. If they are left plugged in and the Stax or other make of amp is on, they will have the bias 580v on them. I 'may' be worth discharging the 009s when not used for a few days, by putting your finger over the pins on the Stax plug.

Interesting Martin Logan info all the same. Those guys have been at the stats game for a long time though not as long as Stax!

Indeed, or put them in the microwave for 10min or so to firm up the diaphragm :)

You can use a vacuum if you hate your Stax and want to throw them in the trash.

Ha Ha, you are funny. I think spending an hour a day (wearing) the 009s in a sub aqua pressure vessel should help too.
You can have couch and a few CDs so you don't get bored.

Seriously, where is Stax in all this. HELLO STAX, your user base, can't you talk to them???????
