A pair of stax SR-007 earspeakers have a buzzing crackling noise in the Right stator. Like many things they worked fine. I put them away in their case, got them out and now there's this distorted noise. I have flexed the cable along the length and at the restraints(?), this has no effect. I've removed the pad to have a quick look at the stator for dust or damage & can't see any. I have left them plugged in for about 12hrs today; no change. While wearing I pushed the R side & can hear the mylar flex under the air pressure with no change in the sound.
Low frequencies make it sound like I can hear it flexing with the music if this makes sense? Or like it's been poked. Some high pitched sounds also make it react and create a noise.

Could it be the SRM-717 energizer?

How do I go about troubleshooting these and what could it be?

Thank you for the recommendation of Julez. I held off sending them out while I searched some more..

Update: I took out the SR-007 a few times & recently the distortion has gone. It may come back of course :)
