I live in the UK and bought the STAX power adapter along a UK > Japan voltage convertor. I too hear a low hum from the adapter.. but the cans do sound better with it

The odd thing is that the hum goes away if I either:
1) Hold onto the metal part of my interconnect
or
2) Hold onto my mp3 player (its got a metal casing)

Leading me to beleive its some sort of ground problem! Any ideas how I can build a grounded interconnect

?

Thinking of building a 4.5v rechargable battery pack for it... just dunno where to get the parts from!

I am suffering from the same low hum problem with my SR-001 when using a power adaptor. What's a grounded IC like?

It might be a 230V or 50htz problem. I am using the 110V/60htz unit with an unsheilded IC and a Radio Shack 4.5V 700mAh adapter and there isn't any hum. Perhaps you need to lift the ground.

As regards fit and comfort, the band is easily bent so that it doesn't press the earpieces to hard on the ears.

Also any of these phones which I have had came with 2 different size rubber tips. The larger tips are more comfortable and result in more bass. Generally these phones don't need more bass because they roll off the top end already. However you can tailor bass somewhat by twisting the phones as they sit in the ear so that the seal is partly broken, giving less bass and more treble/midrange.

I love the bass of the 001/003, these are my primary listening fones now because they sound sooo nice. Beautiful midrange and so damn comfy I can wear them all day long with zero discomfort. No hot ears, no pressure, no interference with my glasses and because of their lightness they are the nearest thing to not wearing fones I have ever found

I'm in complete agreement with you. The SR-001/SRM-MKII combination is simply phenominal. They sound great.

I love mine. Got the amp glued to my Rio Karma.
I chopped up some Kimber interconnects and made a mini to mini.

My 003s on the 252A hum too since they are not grounded. When I touch the energizer it is gone. So I connected a run of wire to the IC & connected it to a larger piece of metal on my desk. Greatly reduced the hum, but it was still there. So I got curious & connected the wire directly to the ground-pin on the AC outlet....

nooo, doable, but that would feel just too wrong, is probably illegal, and the risk of the wire getting loose and falling into one the outlet didn't seem pretty either. I wound the wire around an exposed bit of metal on a heater in the same room - no more hum.

Thanks for the tip.

I will have to find something equivalent here though, as we don't use heaters, not to mention exposed heaters, here.

Yeah, sometimes these medieval conditions have their advantages

Do you have something else available that offers mass & conductivity?

Will a medieval computer case do?
