In case you didn't know, Stax is going to announce a new headphone soon.
I believe the Omega III are supposed to be shown at the Jan. CES show.

I would wait to see to the Omega III before you spend the money on a pair of Omega IIs.

Maybe I missing the point, but I am not the only one. For example colleague Nik wrote: "I find the HD 650 a good cans, not an excellent one. The bass is too uncontrolled and the balance is too dark, fo my tastes. For the same price you can have (today) a better headphones: AKG K 701, I think is one."
If You are sure that someone should be "able to say something like that (I said), too", so tell me that. I am wait. Of course, World is full of differences. Different tastes, ears, peoples, headphones. But if only differences are essential and all is equal, there is nothing to say abowe it.

I'm having trouble understanding some of what you say, which isn't your fault, you're a non-native English speaker and I certainly don't hold that against you... But can you please try to clarify what you mean by

"If You are sure that someone should be "able to say something like that (I said), too", so tell me that. I am wait."

I don't quite understand.

Yes, my english could be more advanced...It is shame, but I am trying...
So, I said -RS-1 are far better than HD-650, than You said - someone could said inversely - HD-650 are better. But I wait from someone who told that, to tell me why. Why HD-650 are better? What arguments?

That show is over now, isn't it? Can anyone here confirm that STAX exhibited anything that fits the above description? Thanks.

even if it's a little off-topic. Which is most detailed, the RS1 or the HD650?.

hola OSIMOVIL, given that a stax system is a huge investment, and probably is quite hard to audition one in Spain (I'm Spaniard too), have you thought of taking a plane and going to a large headfi meeting in US?. You could profit the trip to do tourism, shopping ... and likely save money in the long run.

To my ears, the HD650 and the RS-1 have similar levels of "detail" if by "detail" you mean "ability to distinctly hear all elements of the sound being played without the headphone obfuscating anything due to inferior design." The choice comes down to personal preference as to exactly how you like your music to sound, not a failure in either headphone.

My mistake, I was rumored that they might have an exhibit, but I checked and I couldn't find anything on the internet about it.

Sorry.

My publisher went to the CES show looking for new headphones for me to review. I had told him about the Omega III rumor. I will contact him and find out if it's true and what it's all about.

IMHO, there is no way that you can compare the 404's to the O2's. I and others have gone from the 404's (right Haj?) and never looked back. The 404's are very forward...you can feel them on your nose, but the stop at your ears (they don't go behind your head). The Omegas are more neutral while being slightly laid back. They give a real representation of what live music sounds like. The bass is subsonic, but only slightly visceral.

When it comes to comparing the 600 family to the O2's, I feel the 600/650 is no match for the Omegas.
My 14 y.o. daughter and I were doing listening tests with the Omegas hooked up to a stat amp, and the 600's hooked up to a $5000 Headroom Balanced Max (on loan). This gave the 600's a big starting point advantage over the Stax. We were listening to some 60's Jazz- "Bags Meets Wes" (Wes Montgomery and Milt Jackson) and then some Buddy Guy - "DJ Play my Blues" (hardcore riffin' rockin' blues)...2 completely opposite genres of music.

We were passing the 2 headpones back and forth for an hour, and without me saying anything to her, she looked at me with a puzzled look on her face, and said (while looking at the Senn's), "Hey where's the cymbals...the bass is hardly there, how come the sound is missing? The round one's (meaning the Stax) sound like they have more music coming from them!"

I just smiled at her and said, "Baby, you're my favorite daughter (she's my only daughter
biggrin.gif
), you're the apple of my eye. She understands it. In simple terms she summed it up.

BTW- The 007T or 717 amp only costs a $1000 if you buy it together with the O2's at Audio Cubes, so it's not such a big jump. It's somewhere around $2800 for both.

Yep.

I can't wait to get a better amp for them, but they sound rather nice even out of my 313.

They sound excellent out of those class A /AB 300 seris amps. Fabulous sound....

What amps are you referring to?

Well, my "problem" with the 650 is that sound is very dark and the level of details is low (in my opinion and for my tastes). There isn´t soundstage and the sound is in the sides or inside the head, with a irreal position of the instruments.

Yesterday, I bought a new tube for the ASL (Sylvania) and the sound is different. A little less dark. But the problem persist...

I´ll try a RS-1 in Madrid in a dealer that have it.
I´ll try a O2 in Valencia (400 Km) but I don´t know when.
I´ll buy a new cable (Equinox in Todd the Vinyl Junkie ¿is a good election?) for the HD-650, but I don´t have too much hope about it.
The AKG looks impossible here..

I would love to visit USA (again).... but this is not possible soon.

In case of buy the O2 will be with the 007 or 717. I think that they must works good together.

In case of buy the RS-1 maybe I´ll have problems of sinergy with the ASL.

Thank you.

I found that the Zu Mobius cable brightened up the 650s very nicely.
