I'm considering purchasing an SRM-007 that's European voltage. What are my options for running on @ 117Vs (Internal switch?) or do I need some sort of outboard voltage step-up converter?

I don't think the SRM-007t have an internal switch.
There are always the option of rewiring the transformer though. I am quite sure there are instructions, with color coding, in the Stax thread.

..or use an external step-up converter.

Why would you do that? These are most expensive in Europe than anywhere else, even without the import taxes if you bring them outside EU. Funny how I am thinking how to get one from the US.

A 230v unit can be wired internally to 117v but there is no simple switch to do so and Stax switches it regularly. It could be either jumpers or wires that have to be moved, often involving first desoldering the sockets, the removing the jumpers and soldering them into the right place.
