starving student blows up dacs?

Might I suggest discussion of the merits of amps happen in another thread?

Personally I find it hard to part w/any of my amps... While listening to my old SOHA prior to selling it decided I'd keep it. Although my CTH sounds superior, the SOHA's charm has me keeping it even if for nostalgia's sake.

If you leave the DAC connected under all scenarios, it's possible that you'll never have a problem - but I can't say that for certain. It's been the connecting/disconnecting where the issue occurs.

Think the main thing here is that vendors/promoters of SSMH products make this issue & its possible mitigation highly visible to (potential) customers. Especially if they've been well aware of the issue (e.g. experienced it firsthand).

The issue with the SSMH and Alien/BantamDACs has been discussed repeatedly. It's been a featured topic occupying several pages of the SSMH thread, the Bantam thread (I believe - if my memory is OK), and elsewhere, too, on numerous occasions. I noted it first (afaik) with the very first PCB prototype of the SSMH way back last year about this time. Ludoo himself posted about it many times and on another forum, too, I believe. Myself, Dsavitsk, and even cetoole have investigated the issue a number of times, all with accompanying posts. Not sure what else we can do, especially when some people have no issue at all. It's been a vexing issue, to say the least.

Please let me also emphasize that this is unique (while intermittent) to the Starving Student and DC-coupled PCM2702 DACs, no other combination has been known to cause any problems whatsoever.

Perhaps consider making it very visible on your overview page promoting the related products?
That is something others do for even less important findings.

Expecting users/customers/builders to discover potentially important issues by stumbling upon posts in huge threads is not what I'd expect or be comfortable with. Guess that's more of a full-disclosure / open-source kind of perspective. This is a free-market, capitalistic country though

Point taken - I'll make a note.

EDIT: Done. Thanks, cfcubed. Sometimes the obvious eludes those who are most intimately involved.
